PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a carbonitride-based phosphor having a new composition. SOLUTION : The carbonitride-based phosphor contains La, Si, N, C and Ce and has an emission peak within a wavelength range of 390-490 nm. It is preferable that the carbonitride-based phosphor has a composition represented by formula [1] : AwSixNyOz : Cev, wherein, A represents rare earth metal elements including La as an essential element; and w, x, y, z and v represent numbers respectively within following ranges : 1.6≤w≤2.4, 3.6≤x≤4.4, 5.6≤y≤6.4, 0.6≤z≤1.4 or 0
