PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To efficiently detect circulating tumor cells included in a cell suspension by removing foreign substances from the cell suspension and arraying and observing cells. SOLUTION : In a cell detection method, the cell suspension is poured into a reservoir so that the cell suspension in which cells are contained forms an upper layer and a second liquid of which the specific gravity is larger than that of the cell suspension and the cells forms a lower layer, an interface between the cell suspension and the second liquid is photographed from the upper position of the reservoir, and the existence of rare cells or the number of rare cells included in the cells is detected from an image obtained by the photography.
