The invention relates to a reaction chamber for exothermic material (10), characterized in that it comprises a multilevel structure comprising at least : a vessel (1) for storing said material and corresponding to a lower level; an intermediate level including a reactive feedstock (4) containing at least one alkaline-earth carbonate such that the heat emitted during the oxidation reaction of said material is absorbed, said alkaline-earth carbonate decomposing when exposed to heat in an endothermic reaction; and an upper level including a cover. In an alternative embodiment, the storage material is plutonium and/or uranium carbide.
