PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a rare earth alloy powder having high coercive force HcJ using the HDDR (hydrogenation decomposition desorption recombination) process. SOLUTION : The method for producing a rare earth alloy powder by the HDDR process includes : a hydrogen occlusion step (step S13) of allowing a raw material alloy of a rare earth alloy to occlude hydrogen; an HD step (step S14) of hydrogenating the raw material alloy in which hydrogen is occluded to decompose the same to obtain a decomposition product; and a desorption recombination (DR) step (step S16) of maintaining the temperature of the decomposition product at a first DR temperature of 750°C or higher and 950°C or lower, followed by decreasing the temperature to a second DR temperature of 550°C or higher and 700°C or lower at the middle of the step so as to release hydrogen from the decomposition product to obtain the rare earth alloy powder.
