The present invention relates to a coated conductor with simplified layer architecture comprising a biaxial textured substrate, a template buffer layer composed of a material having the general formula RE 2-x B 2+x O 7 with RE being at least one lanthanoid metal, B being at least one metal selected from Zr and Hf and -0.4 ‰¤ x ‰¤ +0.7, wherein the superconductor layer is obtainable by hybrid liquid phase epitaxy and can be deposited directly onto the template buffer layer.
