PURPOSE : An apparatus and a method for inspecting a half-finished tire are provided to obtain the information on the presence and the absence of the centering, the snaking, the overlap and the open gap and the degree of the open gap of a half-finished tire at a time. CONSTITUTION : A laser is radiated in a width direction of a half-finished tire. An image on the laser radiated region of the half-finished tire is obtained at a different angle from the radiating angle of the laser(20) through a image taking device(10). The distribution sections of a primary rubber band and a secondary rubber band of the surface of the tire, the discontinuous section length of the laser radiated onto the surface of the secondary rubber band and the deformed amount of the laser are read from the obtained image. The width and the height of the joint of the secondary rubber band corresponding to the discontinuous section are calculated from the discontinuous section length of the laser and the deformed amount of the laser. The quality of the half-finished tire is determined by comparing the width and the height of the calculated joint and the distribution sections of the primary rubber band and the secondary rubber band. The determination result is displayed.
