PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing polyester, in which the polyester is produced under normal pressure at low reaction temperature in short time; in addition, to provide a production method comprising dispersing the obtained polyester in a water phase to make an aqueous dispersion of polyester particles; to provide a resin composition containing the obtained polyester; and to provide an electrophotographic toner excellent in low-temperature fixability, obtained by aggregating and fusing the obtained polyester particles. SOLUTION : The method for producing polyester is characterized by comprising the steps of : making a mixture by mixing at least a diol, a dicarboxylic acid, and at least one polycondensation catalyst selected from surfactant catalysts and rare earth metal catalysts; and irradiating the mixture with a microwave to perform a polycondensation reaction to produce a polyester.
