PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alkaline storage battery having both high output performance and high reliability performance and being excellent in durability even when a hydrogen storage alloy with an A5B19 structure is used as a negative electrode. SOLUTION : The alkaline storage battery uses a hydrogen storage alloy negative electrode containing a hydrogen storage alloy and a styrene-butadiene latex (SBR), the hydrogen storage alloy having a rare earth element, nickel and magnesium as principle elements and having an A5B19 structure phase, wherein the ratio (X/Y) of a plate area Y to a plate capacity X is 60 cm2/Ah or more. The particle diameter α of the hydrogen storage alloy is 15 to 25 μm and the ratio (β/α) of the particle diameter α of the hydrogen storage alloy to the particle diameter β of the SBR is 0.007 to 0.018. The SBR contained in the hydrogen storage alloy negative electrode increases from the inside of the negative electrode to the surface thereof. COPYRIGHT : (C)2011, JPO&INPIT
