PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To reduce an applied magnetic field when recording and to reduce medium noise upon reproduction in a heat-assisted perpendicular magnetic recording medium. ?SOLUTION : The perpendicular magnetic recording medium (10) used by a heat-assisted magnetic recording system has a first recording layer (14) positioned above a substrate (11) and containing no rare earth element and a second recording layer (15) positioned on the first recording layer. The second recording layer is made of an amorphous alloy layer containing at least one element of Tb, Gd and Dy having the rare earth metal magnetic moment and at least one element of Fe, Co and Ni having the transition metal magnetic moment. In the second recording layer, the transition metal magnetic moment is superior at recording temperature and the rare earth metal magnetic moment is superior at room temperature. ?COPYRIGHT : (C)2008, JPO&INPIT ?
