The rare earth metal smelting degassing method

A method of smelt-degassing of rare earth metal is invented. This method includes the following steps? step S1, heating the unpurified rare earth metal to liquid metal in a vacuum environment; . step S2, adding the rare earth hydrides into the liquid metal, with the holding time of 5~30min under the pressure of 0.01~0.05MPa, to obtain degassed liquid rare earth metal and gaseous product, where the rare earth hydride is 0.5~10% of the rare earth metal weight?step S3, separating the gaseous product from degassed liquid metal, and cooling the liquid metal to obtain the degassed rare earth metal under inert atmosphere. The addition of the rare earth hydride is 0.5~10% of the weight of the rare earth metal. This application of method could be apply to the rare earth metal purification smelting and vacuum melting process of rare earth metal target, which is high yield and good quality of product. By adding rare earth hydride into molten metal, the strong reduction of H generating in near melting point of rare earth hydride, H atoms in excited states can be supersaturated into molten metal and can be released from the molten metal. This dissolve-release process of H atoms can promote combining hydrogen atom with strong reduction with the gas element in molten metal, and then make the gaseous element in inclusion of the liquid metal form gaseous compound to reserve. The factor of metal purification steps long and complex process could be avoided bringing a secondary pollution, reaching the goal of low energy consumption, high efficiency degassing.
