A fluorinating compound is mixed with a solution containing barium salt and a salt of a rare-earth element to obtain a precipitate which is washed and dried. The solution mixed with the fluorinating compound contains barium ions and ions of a rare-earth element in molar ratio between 0.74 : 0.26 and 030 : 0.70, respectively.
