The invention relates to the field of lighting engineering and in particular to luminescent materials which emit light upon excitation with a bluish light in the yellow-orange spectral region and are used in solid-state sources of white light, in which intensive incandescence is produced as a result of a combination of a yellow-orange luminescence from a luminophore with an initial blue radiation generated by an InGaN light-emitting diode emitting in the blue spectral region (440-480 nm). The invention makes it possible to extend the range of luminophores for solid-state sources of white light by virtue of producing an inorganic luminescent material comprising yttrium oxide, rare-earth metal oxides, and aluminum oxide, in a ratio which makes it possible to produce a light-emitting composition with an average formulation which corresponds to the general formula (Y1-x-yCex∑Lny)3+α Al5O12+1, 5α, where : α is a value which characterizes an increase in the stoichiometric index in comparison with that known for gadolinium yttrium garnet and varies within a range of from 0.033 to 2; х is the atomic fraction of cerium, which is equal to 0.001-0.1; ∑Ln is one or more lanthanides from the group consisting of Gd, Tb, La, Yb, which form, together with yttrium and cerium, an yttrium sublattice.
