PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alkaline storage battery for achieving high output characteristics in a low SOC region when using a hydrogen storage alloy containing a rare earth element including La for actualizing higher equilibrium pressure and a higher stoichiometric ratio. SOLUTION : The hydrogen storage alloy is represented by general formula Ln1-xMgxNiy-a-bAlaMb (where Ln is a rare earth element including La, M is at least one kind element selected from Co, Mn and Zn, and 0.1≤x≤0.2, 0.1≤a≤0.2, 0≤b≤0.1), and composed of an A component consisting of the rare earth element and Mg and a B component consisting of Ni, Al and M. Herein, the stoichiometric ratio (B/A) of the B component to the A component is 3.5-3.7 (3.5≤y≤3.7), and a range P (MPa/hydrogenation equivalent) of a hydrogen-storage plateau characteristic is 0.35-0.80 (MPa/hydrogenation equivalent).
