Disclosed is a powder of an alkali-earth metal titanium oxide compound (MTiO3, where M is at least one member selected from a group consisting of Ba, Sr, Ca and Mg), with an average particle diameter of 50nm or less, an average aspect ratio of 1.0-1.2 and a refractive index of 1.8-2.6. Said powder is useful as a high-refractive index powder.
