Submicron particles having a size of 1-800 nm, comprise at least 30%, preferably at least 90 mass% of an oxide and/or oxohydroxide of a rare earth, where total rare earths are responsible for a specific radioactive activity of at least 0.5 MBq per gram of particles and preferably at least 5, due to disintegration of the rare earth element, at least 10% of the disintegrations producing an emission of radiations. Independent claims are included for : (1) a pharmaceutical composition in an injectable form comprising particles in combination with excipient; and (2) a process for preparing particles or a composition comprising preparing non-radioactive particles of which the composition and the structure are defined and activating the particles by a neutron flux to obtain the desired radioactivity. ACTIVITY : Cytostatic; Antiarthritic. MECHANISM OF ACTION : None given.
