PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a phosphor material that exhibits strong emission of light in the near ultraviolet region by irradiation from an excitation source with a wavelength of 172 nm radiated by rare gas discharge as the excitation source of the phosphor.
SOLUTION : The phosphor material has aggregate of magnesium oxide particles 1 inside, and magnesium oxide-compounding oxide particles 2 containing gadolinium oxide concerning the phosphor material around the aggregate and forms aggregate 3. The molar ratio of Gd element to Mg element in the magnesium-compounding oxide particles, ((Gd element/Mg element)×100) is preferably 0.0001 to 10 mol% by atom conversion.
