A cobalt alloy comprises (wt.%) : nickel (9-11); chromium (22-24); aluminum (11-13); rhenium (1.5-3.5); yttrium, scandium or rare earth metal (0.5-0.7); and cobalt (to 100). Independent claims are also included for the following : (1) a protective layer for protecting a part against corrosion and/or oxidation, especially at high temperatures, comprising an alloy as above; (2) a part, especially of a gas turbine, with a protective layer as above.
