PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a new rare metal extractant which can extract rare metals, in particularly palladium, with high efficiency. SOLUTION : The rare metal extractant contains a cyclic phenol sulfide derivative expressed by general formula (1), wherein R1, R2 and R3 respectively and independently denote a hydrogen atom or a 1-10C hydrocarbon group and Z denotes any among a sulfide group, a sulfinyl group and a sulfonyl group.
