PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a photocatalyst production method having a hydrogen generation activity in a water decomposition reaction within a visible light region.
SOLUTION : A photocatalyst production method used for hydrogen generation from water, has a precipitation step for precipitating at least one compound selected from the group consisting of nitride and oxynitride on the surface of a metal oxide represented by one of AXO3 (1), An+1XnO3n+1 (2) and AmXmO3m+2 (3), and a carrying step for allowing at least one selected from the group consisting of noble metal and noble metal oxide to be carried on the surface of the compound (where A is at least one selected from the group consisting of alkali metal, alkaline earth metal and rare earth metal, X is at least one selected from the group consisting of Ti, V, Zr, Ta, Nb, W, Mo, Ga, In, Ge and Sn, n is 1 or 2, m is 2 or 4).
