PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a molded body of zinc sulfide as a target material, particularly as the target material for use in forming an inorganic EL element, and to provide a production method therefor. SOLUTION : The target material is formed of zinc sulfide or a composite sulfide which includes zinc sulfide and a sulfide containing at least one element of silver, copper, manganese and a rare earth element, wherein ratios of sulfur/zinc in one face and in the other face are 0.9 or more, and the difference between the ratios of sulfur/zinc thereof is ±0.05 or less.
