PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a nickel-hydrogen storage battery with excellent discharge characteristics and over-discharge characteristics and also capable of preventing degradation of charge/discharge cycle characteristics. SOLUTION : The nickel-hydrogen storage battery is provided with a cathode 28 and an anode 30, of which the cathode 28 contains particles 40 of nickel hydride powder coated by a coating layer 42 with at least a part of its surface made of a cobalt compound with an average valence number of cobalt of larger than 2. Further, the anode 30 contains mixture powder of particles 46 of AB5type hydrogen storage alloy powder of a given composition containing Mn element and particles 48 of rare-earth metal-Mg-Ni based hydrogen storage alloy particles not containing Mn element.
