PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a thermoelectric material which is light-weight and does not necessarily contain rare elements and toxic elements, has a relatively high thermoelectric characteristic and has little deterioration in the thermoelectric characteristic with the passage of time. ŽSOLUTION : A first thermoelectric material is composed of a complex material which contains a carrier, an organic compound having electric conductivity and a thermoelectric characteristic which is carried on the surface of the carrier, and a dopant carried on the interface between the carrier and the organic compound. The first complex material has an output factor (S2σ) of 10-7Wm-1K-2or above. A second thermoelectric material is composed of a complex material which contains a porous carrier and an organic compound having electric conductivity and a thermoelectric characteristic which is carried in the pore of the carrier. The second complex material has an output factor (S2σ) of 10-7Wm-1K-2or above. In the second case, it is preferred that the complex material further contains a dopant carried on the interface between the organic matter and the inner wall surfaces of the pores.
