A negative electrode material for a lithium-ion battery. The negative electrode material comprises a silicon-based material and a rare earth element. The rare earth element is solidly dissolved in the silicon-based material to form a complex of a solid solution between the silicon-based material and the rare earth element, and the solid solubility molar ratio of the rare earth element in the silicon-based material is not greater than 1/27. In the negative electrode material, the rare earth element is solidly dissolved in the negative electrode material to form a complex structure of the solid solution, so as to improve the structural strength of the material and reduce performance degradation of a negative electrode caused by crush and disintegration of the silicon-based negative electrode material in charging and discharging processes of the battery, and accordingly, the negative electrode material maintains the advantages such as an outstanding capacitance and an outstanding cycle life, thereby achieving the objective of improving the performance of the lithium-ion battery.
