PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a manufacturing method by which a rare earth magnet with a high coercive force can be easily obtained.
SOLUTION : An R2-containing compound (wherein R2 is at least one element selected from Dy, Tb and Ho) is brought into contact with a surface of a rare earth magnet comprising a crystal grain having an R12X14B phase (wherein R1 is at least one element selected from Nd, Pr, Dy, Tb and Ho, and X is obtained by substituting Fe or a part of Fe with Co) as a main phase and a crystal grain diameter of not larger than 1 μm, thermal treatment is performed so that the crystal grain diameter does not exceed 1 μm, and R2 element is diffused into the magnet. A thermal treatment temperature and a thermal treatment time in the thermal treatment are preferably in ranges of 650-850°C and 0.15-8 hours, respectively.
