PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To improve an SNR by devising elements which constitute soft magnetic layers, thereby increasing Hex in the soft magnetic layers. SOLUTION : The vertical magnetic recording medium 100 includes, on a disk substrate 110, at least a first soft magnetic layer 114a, a nonmagnetic spacer layer 114b, a second soft magnetic layer 114c, and a magnetic recording layer 122, in this order. The first soft magnetic layer 114a and the second soft magnetic layer 114c constitute antiferromagnetic exchange coupling.
