Disclosed is a composition for use in the collection of a metal component from a metal-containing material, which comprises a compound containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of lanthanoid elements and elements belonging to Group 2 on the periodic table and a compound containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of elements belonging to Group 3 on the periodic table, elements belonging to Group 4 on the periodic table, elements belonging to Group 12 on the periodic table, elements belonging to Group 13 on the periodic table and transition metal elements in the fourth period on the periodic table.  Also disclosed is a method for collecting a metal component by using the composition. The composition enables the collection of a highly useful metal component such as a noble metal component and a rare metal component from a material containing the metal component in a simple manner and with high efficiency.
