PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for effectively producing a polylactic resin having a large molecular weight and a high melting point, and being excellent in thermal stability. SOLUTION : A method for producing a polylactic acid by direct polymerization of lactic acids as a main raw material, wherein a method for producing a polylactic resin is characterized by using a metallic compound and an acidic compound as catalysts and by adding a phenolic compound. The metallic compound is preferably one or more compounds selected from tin compounds, titanium compounds, lead compounds, zinc compounds, cobalt compounds, iron compounds, lithium compounds, and rare earth compounds, and the acidic compound is a sulfonic acid compound.
