PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a glass melting furnace in which a bubble defect in glass is reduced to improve the homogeneity of a glass article and a method of manufacturing molten glass. SOLUTION : A charged glass raw material (B) is melted with the heating by a burner 31 and an electrode 12 in a melting vessel 10 to be converted to the molten glass G. The molten glass G flows in to a vessel extended as a rare gas dissolving vessel 20 through a throat 40. A rare gas dissolving apparatus 53 is arranged in the rare gas dissolving vessel 20 and is provided with rare gas introducing ports 22 at 16 places to introduce helium gas or neon gas supplied to a hearth through a heat resistant gas introducing pipe 21 into the rare gas dissolving vessel 20. The bubble of helium gas A having 99% purity is spouted from the rare gas introducing ports 22 in a supply quantity with which the average diameter of the bubble in the molten glass G becomes ≤80 mm.
