PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of producing a luminescent glass having excellent heat resistance, chemical durability and mechanical strength and showing strong luminescence by the irradiation with ultraviolet ray or the like, the luminescent glass and the utilization of the luminescent glass. ŽSOLUTION : The luminescent glass produced by the luminescent glass production method having a 1st process for adsorbing rare earth atoms on a porous glass and a 2nd process for firing the rare earth atom-adsorbing porous glass obtained in the 1st process in the air or reducing atmosphere has excellent heat resistance, chemical durability and mechanical strength and shows strong luminescence by the irradiation with ultraviolet ray or the like.
