PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To improve a luminous flux maintenance factor at the time of lighting, changes of chromaticity with the lapse of time and color differences between tube ends in a fluorescent lamp for a backlight; and to improve those properties in a fluorescent lamp for a backlight having a color reproduction range enlarged using an SCA fluorescent substance or the like.
SOLUTION : The surface of a fluorescent substance particle is coated with a surface-treating substance comprising an orthophosphate ester of scandium and a hydroxide of at least one rare earth element selected from the group consisting of La, Y, Gd, Eu, Tb, Dy and Lu. The fluorescent lamp using the fluorescent substance exhibits suppressed color differences between tube ends at the time of lighting, has a high luminous flux maintenance factor and hardly suffers from changes in lamp chromaticity with the lapse of time, and therefore can be suitably employed for a light source of a backlight or the like of a color liquid crystal display device.
