PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alkali metal titanate composite particle in which a cerium oxide particle is dispersed uniformly in an alkali metal titanate crystal grain and to provide a friction material containing the alkali metal titanate composite particle.SOLUTION : The alkali metal titanate composite particle contains alkali metal titanate, cerium oxide and an alkaline earth metal of 0.5-1 mass%, in terms of an oxide of the alkaline earth metal, to the total mass of the alkali metal titanate composite particle.
