PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a dielectric ceramic exhibiting a high dielectric constant and the stable temperature characteristic of the relative dielectric constant and a capacitor using the same. SOLUTION : The dielectric ceramic has crystal grains consisting essentially of barium titanate and grain boundary phases formed among the crystal grains and contains magnesium, at least one rare earth element (RE) selected from gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium and ytterbium and manganese respectively in a fixed ratio to 1 mol barium constituting barium titanate expressed in terms of oxide, wherein niobium is contained in a fixed ratio based on 100 pts.mass barium titanate expressed in terms of oxide and the average particle diameter of the crystal grains is 0.05-0.2 μm. The capacitor having high capacitance and stable temperature coefficient of capacitance is formed by applying the dielectric ceramic as a dielectric layer. COPYRIGHT : (C)2010, JPO&INPIT
