PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a mercury-free discharge bulb for an automobile quick in rising of luminous flux from immediately after lighting without a notable change in chromaticity until reaching stable light emission from immediately after lighting.
SOLUTION : The extremely small mercury-free discharge bulb for the automobile has an arc tube in which small-diameter tube parts 14b, 14c are provided at both ends of a light-emitting part 14a which is a ceramic tube, and electrodes 13a, 13b fixed to the small-diameter tube parts to face each other in the light-emitting part 14a which is filled with a luminescent substance and starting xenon gas of 6-18 atm in charged pressure. The luminescent substance does not contain Sc but contains at least an Na halide and a rare earth metal halide whose vapor pressure difference from the Na halide does not exceed about 10 kPa in an environment of about 1, 000°C.
