PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a fluorescent substance having uniform and high luminous efficiency. SOLUTION : This method for producing the objective fluorescent substance comprises the following process : an aqueous solution of phosphoric acid is added to a rare earth element oxide made from La, Tb and Ce and obtained by burning the corresponding coprecipitated salt, to effect reaction, and the resultant reaction product is burned.
