PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing acrolein, capable of obtaining the acrolein by the dehydration of glycerol in a high yield. SOLUTION : This method for producing the acrolein is provided by making glycerol coexist with a catalyst having the crystals of a rare earth metal phosphate, obtained by burning a solid substance formed by impregnating phosphate ion to liquid containing water, a rare earth metal hydroxide and/or a dehydrated condensate of the hydroxide, to dehydrate the glycerol.
