SOLUTION : In the metal halide lamp for the automobile headlight having mercury, buffer gas and metal halides sealed in an arc tube made of quartz glass equipped with a pair of electrodes, the metal halides include halides of sodium, thallium, and indium, the indium halide by 10% or more and 55% or less to a total volume of halides, a kind or more of halides of rare-earth metal consisting of lanthanum, neodymium, gadolinium, dysprosium, holmium, thulium and lutetium, and further, halides of cesium by 5% or more to a total volume of metal halides in a weight ratio.
