The near infrared strongly luminous rare earth complex is characterized in that the structure of the near infrared strongly luminous rare earth complex is represented by the following general formula (1) wherein Ln(III) represents a trivalent rare earth ion; n is an integer of 3 or more; Xs, which may be the same or different, represent a hydrogen atom, a deuterium atom, a halogen atom, a C1-C20 group, a hydroxyl group, a nitro group, an amino group, a sulfonyl group, a cyano group, asilyl group, a phosphonic acid group, a diazo group, or a mercapto group; and Z represents a bidentate ligand.
