The unit (10) has a flexible felt mat (1) which is laid in single or multiple layers around a pipe. An impermeable foil (2) i.e. aluminum foil, is arranged over the felt mat and a fabric layer (4) i.e. glass fiber fabric, that is formed over the impermeable foil. The felt mat is made of inorganic fibers such as alkaline-earth silicate fibers. The fabric layer exhibits annealing loss of less than 0.1 percentage. The thickness of the foil is in the range of 0.03-0.1 millimeter. A wire gauze (3b) is laid over the impermeable foil.
