PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalyst having high selectivity and reduced in the deterioration of capacity with the elapse of time in manufacturing acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile by gaseous phase catalytic ammonoxidation of propane or isobutane. SOLUTION : Acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile is manufactured by the gaseous phase catalytic ammonoxidation of propane or isobutane by using a catalyst containing Mo, V, Nb and Sb and further containing a specific fifth component (Re, Hf).
