PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a magnetic encoder having improved corrosion resistance.SOLUTION : The magnetic encoder 16 comprises a multipolar magnet 23 having magnetic poles arranged alternately in the peripheral direction, and a slinger 24 holding the multipolar magnet 23. The multipolar magnet 23 is a plastic product including rare earth magnetic powder and plastic as binder for binding the rare earth magnetic powder. On the surface of the multipolar magnet 23, a plated coat 30 is formed as a rust proof treatment coat. In this construction, the surface of the multipolar magnet 23 is covered with the plated coat 30 to suppress the rusting of the rare earth magnetic powder which the multipolar magnet 23 contains. This improves the anticorrosion property of the magnetic encoder 16 including the multipolar magnet 23.COPYRIGHT : (C)2008, JPO&INPIT
