Disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte battery having high energy density and good cycle characteristics. Also disclosed are a positive electrode used in such a battery, and a positive electrode active material used for such a positive electrode. Specifically disclosed is a positive electrode active material having a composition represented by the formula (1) below and a crystallite size in the (110) plane of not less than 85 nm. Li xCo1-y-ZNbyMzO2 (1) (In the formula, M represents Mg, Y, a rare earth element, Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, B, Al, Ga, C, Si, Sn, N, S, F or Cl; and 0. 9 <= x <= 1.1, 0.0002 <= y <= 0.01 and 0 <= z <= 0.05.) © KIPO & WIPO 2008
