PURPOSE : An electron beam-excited blue phosphor is provided to exhibit sufficiently satisfactory color purity under a low-to-medium speed acceleration voltage of about 15kV or less, and ensure luminance linearity in a high electric current region.
CONSTITUTION : An electron beam-excited blue phosphor comprises a rare earth-based activated alkaline earth thiosilicate represented by the formula of M1_xM2_(2-x)Si_2O_yS_(6-y)Ra_z, wherein each of M1 and M2 is an alkaline earth metal, Ra is a rare earth ion of Ce^(3+) or Eu^(2+), and x, y, and z satisfy the following relations of 0= 0.005, respectively. The phosphor has a body color in a range of a*>0 and b*<0 as measured with a D65 light source and a 2 degree visual field. In an L*a*b* calorimetric chromaticity diagram, an angle(Φ) formed between an a* axis and a straight line connecting a point of the body color to the origin satisfies the relationship of 39 degree<Φ<60 degree.
