PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a permanent magnet rotating machine using an R-Fe-B-based sintered magnet, where the residual magnetic flux density of a permanent magnet does not decrease and coercive force is large especially at the edge of the permanent magnet.
SOLUTION : In the permanent magnet rotating machine, a rotor with a plurality of permanent magnet segments put onto the side of a rotor core, and a stator with a coil wound around a stator core having a plurality of slots, are arranged via a gap. In this case, the edge of the permanent magnet is thinner than the center section. The permanent magnet is a sintered magnet body made of an R1-Fe-B-based composition. While powder, which is selected from the oxide of R2, the fluoride of R3, the oxyfluoride of R4 (R1, R2, R3, and R4 are rare earth elements), exists on the surface of the magnet body, heat treatment is applied to the magnet body and powder at temperature not more than the sintering temperature of the magnet in vacuum or in an inert gas. In the permanent magnet rotating machine, the coercive force at the edge of the permanent magnet is higher than that at the center section.
