PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an auxiliary powder for pottery which is a product of effective utilization of earth and sand dredged from the bottom of a natural or artificial lake or marsh and to provide an inexpensive pottery material obtained by blending the auxiliary powder with pottery clay.
SOLUTION : Dredged earth and sand from Tateiwa dam (artificial lake) is sun-dried for about one year to obtain dry earth and sand. An auxiliary powder for pottery containing the earth and sand is passed through a 42-mesh sieve, and the undersize fraction is thrown into an edge runner and is followed by the addition of water to obtain a liquid auxiliary for pottery. The liquid auxiliary is kneaded by means of an edge runner. The auxiliary powder is blended with commercial pottery clay in a specified mass ratio, and the resulting blend is further kneaded to obtain a pottery material.
