PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a zirconia-based mixed oxide which has improved heat resistance of specific surface area at a high temperature (e.g. 1, 000°C for 3 h) and has a ceria reduction rate of 80% or more, or in other words, which has improved heat resistance of specific surface area and reduction rate of ceria. SOLUTION : The zirconia-based mixed oxide contains zirconia as a main component and further contains 5% or more of ceria and 1-30% of rare earth metal oxide other than ceria, and is characterized in that the specific surface area after heat treating at 1, 000 °C for 3 h is 50 m2/g or more and the reduction rate of the ceria contained in the mixed oxide is 80% or more. Preferably, the zirconia-based mixed oxide has a specific surface area of 20 m2/g or more after heat treating at 1, 100 °C for 3 h. COPYRIGHT : (C)2008, JPO&INPIT
