PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To eliminate the defect where the luminescent color is changed by a large amount, corresponding to the usage in a conventional metal halide lamp for an automobile headlamp. SOLUTION : A metal halide lamp for an automobile headlamp is provided with an arc tube made of quartz glass; each metal foil for external power-supply connection deposited inside quartz glass at each sealed part provided at both ends of the arc tube; a metal halide and a rare earth element halide that are sealed in a hollow light emitter of the arc tube; paired electrodes which are made of a refractory metal, whose each one end is welded to the metal foil, and whose each the other end is protruded into the hollow light emitter, and each coil made of a refractory metal and covering each electrode in each sealed part. The metal halide lamp has a structure where the electrode diameter d and the coil inside diameter ID satisfy the relation 1.2≤ID/d≤1.6. COPYRIGHT : (C)2008, JPO&INPIT
