PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a new oxycyanamide of an rare earth element, emitting light by an ultraviolet light excitation, and a method for producing the same.
SOLUTION : This hexagonal rare earth element oxycyanamide is expressed by general formula : Ln2O2CN2, and contains at least Y as the are earth element (Ln). Also the method for producing the hexagonal rare earth element oxycyanamide is provided by calcining the compound of the rare earth element under an atmosphere containing ammonia and an organic material such as a hydrocarbon. Since the hexagonal rare earth element oxycyanamide contains at least Y as the rare earth element, it is more excellent in the brightness of light emission caused by the vacuum ultraviolet light excitation as compared with that of a La-based oxycyanamide.
