An exhaust gas purification catalyst which is little deteriorated in activity even in a high-temperature atmosphere containing oxygen in a high concentration. This catalyst contains a double oxide catalyst containing the first solid solution consisting of a double oxide and Pd or the second solid solution consisting of a double oxide and Rh and/or Pt. The double oxides constituting the first and second solid solutions have perovskite structure and are represented by ABO3 and CDO3 respectively.The double oxide catalyst is supported by a double oxide carrier containing either a double oxide of spinel structure represented by EF2O4 or a double oxide represented by GAl12O19. A and B represent a rare earth element and a transition element respectively, while C and G are each an alkaline earth element. D is one or more of Ti, Zr, Hf and Ce, while E is an alkaline earth element and/or a transition element and F is at least one of Al, Mg, and transition elements.
