PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an anode material capable of exerting excellent cycle characteristics while maintaining high discharge capacity. SOLUTION : The anode material for the lithium secondary battery consists of complex powder satisfying following conditions (1) to (3). (1) The complex powder comprises an A component as at least one of the elements selected from a group consisting of Ag, Al, Au, Ca, Cu, Fe, In, Mg, Pd, Pt, Y, Zn, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, Ta, W and rare-earth elements, a B component as at least one of the elements selected from a group consisting of Ga, Ge, Sb, Si, and Sn, and an alloy of the A component and the B component. (2) Ratios of the A component and the B component within the total complex powder are 30 to 70 atm.% of the A component and 70 to 30 atm.% of the B component as against the sum total of the both of 100 atm.%.
