PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a compact and inexpensive high-energy short optical pulse generator which has less number of components. SOLUTION : The high-energy short optical pulse generator includes a mode-lock fiber laser device 1 which has a rare-earth dope fiber gain medium, and generates short optical pulse, a pump light source 2 for generating pump optical pulse, and a colorant gain medium 3 for amplifying the short optical pulse by pumping the pump optical pulse.
